  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined. Press the mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish and top with barbecue sauce.
  3. Bake for 25 minutes.
  4. Cook elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente; drain.
  5. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and whisk in flour. Gradually add milk while whisking until thickened. Stir in shredded cheddar cheese until smooth.
  6. Combine cooked macaroni with cheese sauce and pour over the meatloaf layer.
  7. Bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
