  • 56 firm apples (such as Golden or Braeburn)
  • 100 g butter
  • 120 g sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 roll of puff pastry

Instructions

  2. Peel, core, and quarter the apples.
  3. In an ovenproof pan, melt the butter and sugar over medium heat until golden caramel forms. Add vanilla extract and salt if desired.
  4. Arrange the quartered apples in the caramel, rounded side down, and cook for 10–15 minutes until lightly tender.
  5. Roll out the puff pastry over the apples and tuck in excess edges.
  6. Bake for 30–35 minutes until the pastry is golden brown.
  7. Cool for about 5 minutes before inverting onto a plate to serve warm.
