  • ¾ cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 3 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 34 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • Gel food coloring (red and blue)
  • Silver star sprinkles
  • Luster dust/disco dust (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in egg yolk and vanilla extract.
  3. Gradually add all-purpose flour and salt until a soft dough forms.
  4. Roll out the dough to ¼ inch thick and cut into star shapes.
  5. Bake for 10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden; cool on a wire rack.
  6. Prepare royal icing by mixing powdered sugar, corn syrup, milk, and extracts until smooth. Color as desired.
  7. Decorate cooled cookies with royal icing and sprinkles.
