  • 2 tbsp melted butter (or vegan butter, for icing)
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup (for icing)
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, spices, salt, and sugar.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles small peas.
  4. Add molasses and milk; stir until just combined.
  5. On a floured surface, bring dough together and flatten into a circle about ¾ inch thick.
  6. Brush the top with milk and sprinkle with sugar.
  7. Cut into wedges and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
