  • 56 firm apples (such as Golden Delicious or Braeburn)
  • 100 g unsalted butter
  • 120 g granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Peel, core, and quarter the apples.
  3. In an ovenproof skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add sugar and cook until deep golden brown; stir in vanilla extract and salt.
  4. Arrange apple quarters cut side up in the caramel, cooking over low heat for about 10–15 minutes.
  5. Drape puff pastry over the apples and tuck in the edges.
  6. Bake for 30–35 minutes until the pastry is puffed and golden.
  7. Allow to cool for 5–10 minutes before inverting onto a serving plate.
