Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large sweet onion
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil in a spray bottle

Instructions

  1. Prepare the onion by cutting off the top and peeling it. Make deep cuts around the onion to create petal shapes while keeping the base intact.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour and spices (paprika, cayenne, cumin, thyme, oregano, salt, and pepper). In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, and water.
  3. Coat the onion first with the flour mixture, then dip it into the egg mixture before coating it again in flour.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Spray oil on the coated onion and cook for approximately 25 minutes or until golden brown. Spray oil intermittently during cooking for maximum crispiness.
  5. Carefully remove from the air fryer and season with salt and pepper before serving with dipping sauces.
